Since the 1970s, originally from the culturally rich village of Vietnam, our artisans grew up surrounded by natural fiber especially seagrass and weaving skill that has been passing down from their ancestor.
Inherited not only the weaving skill but also the love in craftsmanship, our artisans are passionate about incorporating the traditional weaving into their work. This technique requires all steps done by hands. Therefore, our craftsmen must have rich experience and skillful techniques that nonstop develop through the decades to create the best handicraft products.
Retaining the tradition does not mean being bound to it and ignoring evolution and market trends. Our product design process is beautiful between traditional skills craftsmanship from our artisans and the creativity from our designer’s team and our designer volunteers who get inspired from the local livelihoods, market consciousness, and their magnificent imagination.
At Viet Trang Craft, we pride ourselves on having over 500 local women with rich experience in manufacturing handicraft products. Their skill and workmanship is truly an art form!
The local artisans choosing to continue in their mother and grandmother’s footsteps are preserving Vietnamese traditional crafts. Each handcrafted piece reflects the spirit of artisans creating it and their passion for traditional weaving handicrafts. Creating a handmade product brings not only better support to their family, but also a way to hold a story and communicate culture and heritage.
With admiration and respect we hope to promote their journey to contribute in keeping these rich traditions alive and continue growing with the artisans.
“Handicraft products for a sustainable life” is our philosophy. That is the reason we use only natural fiber for our handicraft products. They are mainly 4 materials: seagrass, water hyacinth, corn husk leaves and palm leaves.
Seagrass – “the grass that belongs to the marine”.
This great material is harvested sustainably in Nga Son village where is well-known by the seagrass due to its strength, softness and silky. To our artisans, this material is not only high-quality natural fiber to craft beautiful products but it is also the signature tree of their childhood
Palm Leaf – “a purely natural gift comes from the forest”.
All our individually handmade products with white patterns all crafted by palm leaf fiber. We selected this material then split, braid and hand-weave with traditional technique to ensure the fiber’s edges and surface are smooth and have beautiful color.
Water Hyacinth – “a weed plant from the river”.
They are the most popular materials for home handicraft products due to its durability and beautiful brown color. It is a soft material that has been used many for handweaving rugs to create a comfortable feature as well as the beauty of the products.
Corn Leaf – “the plant comes from the farm”.
We recycle the leftover leaf to manufacture handicraft product with unique milky color. It is an ideal fiber to weaving our baskets, rugs, and poufs as its strength, durability and beautiful hue. We are leading in combing different natural fibers to create stunning designs and different for the market.
Bamboo – “the plant that represents the Vietnamese’ spirit”
Bamboos always grow together to form a big bunch just like how Vietnamese people always help each other. Bamboos can be processed to thin fibers and weaved into plates or baskets. With the natural bright yello, bamboo baskets, utensils,… are always catchy and trendy.
Rattan – “the vedette everyone admires”
Rattan is very popular for its application in the weaving industry. It comes from a home of more than 600 different species and mainly grows in rain forests. This material can be woven into variable categories: from small baskets, handbags to big furniture like chairs, tables,…
Fern – “the rising idol in the weaving industry”
Although fern is not as popular as other materials in basket weaving, it is still applied to create beautiful homewares. As feather-like as they are, fern stipes are processed and then turn into weaving fibers that create the same beautiful colors and effects as seagrass or rattan.
